The new school year is right around the corner and with it the upcoming cold and flu season.  Many of you are purchasing new clothes and supplies for your children.  Last minute physicals, dental and orthodontist appointments are being scheduled, in the hopes that your children will be all set, ready to start school.

Now is also the time to start optimizing your families health to ward off the viruses, colds and flu’s you and your family will be exposed to in the coming months.  Healthy whole-food eating and supplementation, getting rid of heavy metals and toxins from your body, drinking plenty of good water, getting enough sleep, exercise and fresh air are key components. According to a study conducted by researchers from Jikei University School of Medicine in Tokyo and published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, a vitamin D supplement is more effective at reducing the risk of flu infection than vaccines or antiviral drugs.

Vitamin D3 is one of the vitamins in our family’s “arsenal”.   Dr. Mercola and Dr. Eisenstein provide great information for determining the amount of Vitamin D3 that your body needs and why it is an important component in staying healthy.

One of the most important decisions you will be asked to make is whether to vaccinate or not.  As a parent, it is very important to educate yourself so that you can make an informed decision. Our children are depending on us!  Dr. Mercola writes in his article Vaccines and Immune Suppression”, Vaccines, all vaccines, are immune suppressing; that is they depress our immune functions.’

Barbara Joe Fisher from the National Vaccine Information Center states that “Vaccination is a medical procedure which carries a risk of injury or death.  As a parent, it is your responsibility to become educated about the benefits and risks of vaccines in order to make the most informed, responsible vaccination decisions.”  In a special report for Mothering MagazineIssue 126, September/October 2004 titled “In the Wake of Vaccines”, she raises profound questions about the relationship between the rise in chronic illness and the increase in childhood vaccinations.

We did our due diligence to become educated parents.  Thirteen years ago, we stopped vaccinating ourselves and our children.  We now concentrate on building our immune systems to PREVENT illness and disease.
